#18 - Hospice

Thankful Challenge #18 - As I was working on yesterday's post about the good stuff, a couple of lines from the song kept running through my mind. Since Dad died I always cry at "Being right there as our time got small. Holding her hand when the good Lord called her up, yeah man that's the good stuff."

I don't even have to close my eyes to picture the last days we spent with Dad. He had a stroke on a Monday afternoon and died early Friday morning. In between the time he had the stroke and the time that he died, we spent hours upon hours around his bedside talking to him, holding his hand, telling stories, and comforting each other. It was a sacred time for our family as we told Dad "goodbye". I was so thankful that we were at home instead of in a hospital and that the incredible nurses from Hospice were there to check on Dad, reassure us, and prepare us for each phase of the dying process. Thanks to Hospice, we were all able to be there as his time got small, and we all surrounded him as the good Lord called him up. I am eternally grateful.
