1) I spend my weekdays working in a school with 450 students. While many of my students come from loving, stable families, many of my students do not. The heartache some bring to school is real...and big...and heartbreaking. On Sundays it does my heart good to be surrounded by little people who come with enough...enough love, enough care, even enough food. In some strange way, spending time with my little Sunday School treasures fortifies me to go back to my school on Monday mornings ready for the challenges I will find there.
2) Is there anything more precious than telling little people that Jesus loves them? No matter our lesson, no matter the story we're studying, that is the one truth I remind them of over and over. Jesus loves you...Jesus loves you...Jesus loves you. Reminding them reminds me that the entire gospel is built around the truth of Jesus' love for each of us.
And so, every three months I pack up my instruments and a puppet or two, brush up on my fingerplays, and make my way into the land of the little people. In return for my time spent teaching, I get lots smiles with "Hi Miz Bwooke", long-winded stories told from the perspective of preschoolers, and tight hugs around my knees. I am blessed indeed!
